Street Photo Diary, Issue 40: Getting Back to the Streets

After the incident I had the last time I was out shooting Street Photography, I have been finding it hard to get back to shooting. The attack put me off wanting to do street photography at all, having both shattered my confidence and also my motivation. But slowly I’ve ben trying to make myself get back out there, and this Saturday, I finally did my first street shoot in a while.

Initially, I was planning to shoot an episode of “Street Photo Diary” for Youtube, but in the end, I wasn’t really happy with the shots I was getting, and I didn’t really feel it, so I didn’t bother in the end. My main mission for the shoot was to get back into the hang of shooting street photography again. At first I was a little nervous, but after a while it all pretty much came back to me.

I was shooting with my venerable Sony a6000 which is still my favourite street photography camera. I shot entirely with the Sigma 30mm f2.8 lens and I mostly shot from the hip using the screen pointed up as my primary framing device.

Despite the fact that it has gotten much colder here, and we’re heading from Autumn into Winter, there are still lots of tourists in the city. Everywhere you go there seems to be more and more, and in the area of Temple Bar in Dublin, there are a particularly large amount. This is fascinating to me as you can see the demographics of the city changing, and part of shooting street photography for me is capturing this. It’s about the changing life of the city.

After narrowing it down to just the the best shots, here are some of the photos from the shoot. They’re certainly not my best ever, and they wouldn’t make it into my portfolio or anything, but I’m still happy I was able to get back into it after being put off, and having resisted for so long. Incidentally I processed these using Mastin Labs Portra presets.
