A London Photo Walk along the Thames

The Millennium Bridge in London

Back at the end of April I was in London for a few days, so as always I took the opportunity to get a few photos and some video while I was there. I didn’t really go very far from our hotel in Southwark, pretty much staying to the south bank, but even here there is plenty to see just walking up and down the Thames.

So over the two days I was there I spent a few hours just watching life go by on the riverside. It was fascinating to watch all the comings and goings, especially earlier in the morning before it got busy. Apart from all the obvious tourists around the more touristy sites like the HMS Belfast and tower bridge, there were loads of people treasure hunting down on the banks of the river. The water levels were fairly low so lots of the bank was exposed and there were plenty of people looking and searching through the stones on the bank side.

The amount of river traffic on the Thames is amazing. Given that our little river Liffey here in Dublin doesn’t really have any outside the port, it’s always fascinating for me to see a working river in action like this.

I didn’t really have that long in the end and I probably shot more video than photos, which you can see in the video above. I actually wasn’t sure what to do with the footage and nearly didn’t make a video from it, but I really liked some of the shots so I went with it in the end. These kinds of videos don’t do great on my channel so if you do get a chance, please give it a watch.

In terms of gear and production, this was mostly shot on the Canon R6 Mark II. There were also some shots on the Canon G7XII. About half of the stills were processed suing my own FilmLUX classic presets. All the video was shot in C-LOG3 on the Canon (except the last shot of the video) and graded in Final Cut Pro using Film Convert. I really like this combination and you can get really nice looking footage from it. I nearly prefer it to what I can get from the stills using Lightroom. Anyway, there is a random collection of photos from the trip below, so enjoy!
