The Colours and Textures of Summer

After a rather bleak and dull start to the year, it’s always nice when the grey world of winter springs to life. And while Spring has its own charms, things really explode into vividness once summer hits. I have always been fascinated by flowers and plants, not necessarily from a “nature” point of view, but by the wonderful colours and textures of the natural world. I guess the designer and artist in me just won’t quit.

I love everything from the contrasts of yellows and greens of buttercups against the long grass to the wispy reds of wild poppies. And the more exotic the plant, the more detailed the textures and intricacies of the patterns become. And of course, when you have tiny flowers like little daisies and lots of them, it’s also quite a pretty texture. Am I being weird here?

Anyway, while I haven’t set out to explicitly capture any of these recently, I have been taking my camera with me on walks, and so here are some recent shots of flowers where the beautiful colours and textures of the summer bloom have caught my attention. None of these is an award-winning shot or anything, but they capture the moment. These were taken on a variety of cameras, including a Canon R6II, a Fujifilm XE-4 and a Canon G7XII. Enjoy.
