Random Acts of Photography - Wales Edition

Back at the end of August, we took a holiday, and for our vacation, we decided to do a little road trip across Wales. I took a lot of photos on the journey, despite it being “time off” (I mean, you’d have to!), and it’s taking me some time to get through them all. In the meantime, I wanted to share a selection of them, and so I figured that this would be perfect for an instalment of “Random acts of Photography”
We started in the coastal town of Aberystwyth, which might seem like an odd choice, but they do have a very cool heritage railway. The Vale of Rheidol railway was our first side quest of many on the trip, and it involved taking a very cool narrow-gauge steam train up into the mountains, with some spectacular views along the way.
The town of Aberystwyth itself is quite pretty, and you get a great view over it from the top of the hill at the northern end of the promenade, which happens to feature a hundred-year-old cliff railway to bring you to the top.
But perhaps the most spectacular thing to happen when we were there was that one night, as we took a walk on the seafront, we watched as a storm rolled across Cardigan Bay
From there we headed to an amazing coach-style inn by a lake up in the Welsh mountains. This was a beautiful and peaceful place, and a nearby national park also served as a beautiful nature excursion. Oh, and it was also smack in the middle of the world-famous Mach Loop, which resulted in aircraft buzzing the hotel and the lake one day, including two Royal Air Force A400S. That woke us up!
The remainder of the journey was spent on the north coast by the towns of Conwy and Llandudno, but on the way we also stopped at Caernarfon to check out the famous castle. This was pretty impressive, and while exploring, I got lost in the castle walls (more on that in a future post), but it paled in comparison to the grandeur and sheer “Game of Thrones-ness” of Conwy Castle. There were even ravens staring at me at one point!
Finally, our last few days were spent in the lovely town of Llandudno, and its beautiful boardwalk and pier. And, by pure coincidence, on our last night here, we just happened to be there for a charity gathering of 150 Honda Goldwing motorcycles, decked out in lights for an evening “Light Parade” to raise money for charity.
It was a great trip, and I hope to do a more in-depth post and trip report in the future. Although I still haven’t posted my Scottish one from last year yet, and it’s been over a year, I wouldn’t wait for it! It’s coming, honestly. In the meantime, enjoy some random photos from Wales!
